Some of Our Students Is Learning!

After this unfortunate discovery, I'm pleased to know that at least one institution of higher learning takes its responsibilities seriously.

Be sure to read at least pages five and six.

UPDATE: I just learned that the zombie preparation plans were removed from the University of Florida's site. If you didn't get a chance to read it, don't come crying to me when you hear the unmistakable shuffling and moans of the zombie horde coming after your brains. You clearly need to visit more frequently.

The Trapeze Artists Will Blow Your Mind

I take pleasure in the simple things of life.

This weekend, Madame Delicious and I are getting away for the first time in several years. Here's where we're staying:

We're both really looking forward to it. Mohonk Mountain House is a Victorian era grand hotel, so it's got that old timey feel and history she'll enjoy.

I enjoyed telling her last night that I'm excited about the 11am ferret circus that the hotel hosts daily. She believed me for about forty seconds. Best forty seconds of my day.

See, the simple things.

A Question for the Quants

When someone who was born on third base but thinks he hit a triple to get there self-importantly tells me “trends often reverse at inflection points”, should I:

a) Ask for data to support this hypothesis
b) Mutter something about heteroscedasticity in the hope that fear of a conversation about statistics will make him go away
c) Punch him in the throat

New York Scoring Update

I just finished reviewing our ward information for the stake leadership directory. Each time I look around the ward or at pictures of the members, I'm struck by the diversity. A decent number of ward leaders are converts, a handful of which joined the church in the last five years. There are auxiliary leaders from Mexico, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, the Philippines, and Japan. Of the 38 named individuals in the directory, eleven have been in the ward fewer than three years. Add to this the native New Yorkers and transplants from the Mormon west and it makes for a great mix.

+3 New York.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I took the picture below on my way out of our meetinghouse a few weeks ago. Someone is probably storing this in the air conditioning alcove outside the building because there's no room in their apartment. That's sadly not uncommon. Stay classy Westchester.

- 7 New York.

Metro North Advisory

Don't be too quick to rejoice if you find one open seat on the crowded train you barely caught. There could be an olfactory reason that seat was vacant before your arrival.
