Hierarchy
Denise asked today if I wanted her to make a peach crisp for dessert. Because of my concern for her well being at this late stage of pregnancy and my exceeding charity in always putting her first, I said no.
Have you finished laughing? Good, let us continue.
Her question led to a short discussion of where crisps fall on the dessert desirability continuum. While I recognize that many people on these here interwebs think pie is supreme, they are wholly wrong. (Also smelly, but that's another issue.) Ignoring category combinations that may produce higher ranking desserts, I submit the following as the definitive hierarchy of dessert supremacy. In increasing order:
- Fruits, cheeses, or any other imposter dessert
- Puddings, crèmes, and gelatins
- Pies
- Ice Cream
- Crisps
- Pastries
- Cakes
- Brownies
- Cookies
There are individual exceptions to this list (for example, pumpkin pie trumps a hard sugar cookie), but otherwise I'm willing to defend it to the bloated, diabetic, blissfully happy end.
